New Polarized Lens Filter

Yesterday I finally picked up a polarizing lens filter for my Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 lens.  I'm looking forward to a couple of sunny days to take it out for a test drive!  If everything goes well I should get a lot of use out of it this summer.  :)

My next major purchase will be a new lens for my Canon T1i...  I've been looking at the Canon EF 70-200 f/4 IS.

Oh, an afterthought, I should mention what the filter is...  It is a Sigma 77mm DG Wide C-PL.

Cabot Trail 2009 - Oct 8-10th

Here are a couple of pictures from our recent trip around the Cabot Trail Oct 8th-Oct10th.  The pictures are from between the Keltic Lodge (Middle Head Hike) to Cheticamp.  Even though the weather wasn't the best the colours and sights were impressive (as they always are this time of year).

I love lighthouses

A couple of weeks ago I was in Baddeck, NS for a wedding.  I saw this lighthouse and couldn't resist going to take a picture.  Enjoy!

Windmills are so impressive

Never mind the ability to generate renewable energy... up close these things are impressive.  I wish more of them dotted the landscape honestly.

A walk in the park...

I spent about an hour walking around and talking with a few folks at Rotary Park in New Glasgow.  Ofcourse, with camera in tow.  A few people fishing in the East River at the park were kind enough to let me hover around them and take some pictures.  In the highly unlikely situation any of them are reading this thanks folks!

Let the photo's begin...

Honestly, I am new to the world of DSLR's and photography so I have ALOT to learn.  The world of point-and-shoot has been left behind.  I was out early this morning to take a couple of pictures but unfortunately not many of the shots turned out all that well.  I really did expect this.  I was far too busy playing with settings and forgetting to change settings to have anything turn out.  All the same it was fun...  I am looking forward to the warmer weather so I can go off on some hikes to get some pictures of some of the places I have previously visited.  Anyhow, let me show a few of the pictures I took today.

These are both on Greenhill, Pictou County, Nova Scotia.  I promise there will be more pictures in the future.

Camera Excitement Builds!

I spent the last couple of days reviewing tons of different lenses that I could buy for my Canon EOS Rebel T1i.  I am very comfortable with my choice of camera considering this is my first step into the world of DSLR's but I am under no illusion that the lens that will ship with my camera will essentially be crap.  I believe I read on one website that Canon valued the lens at approximately $100 CDN.  The reviews were not very favourable so I figured I should look around for something that will generally serve me well.  I must admit that I did not expect camera lenses to be quite so complex as I started my research.  I still have tons to learn obviously but after many reviews (and looking at pictures taken with certain lenses on Flickr) I have come to the conclusion that the Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM would be the best possible lens for my camera.

I am looking forward to taking all this stuff out for a test drive in the near future.  You'll likely be the first to know...

My poor neglected blog...

I really do neglect my blog... sorry.

I have just been so preoccupied with either work or other things.  I am working on a project which I hope to have launched by the end of May which has eaten up much of my free time.  I'll talk about it a bit more as I get closer to launching it.  It should be fun though and I am really looking forward to seeing what it evolves into.

For those who do follow my twitter updates or know me well I have recently ordered a new DSLR that I can't wait to actually have in my hands.  I should have it early next week and I would expect you will be bombarded with photos and videos soon thereafter.  Here is a picture of the Canon EOS Rebel T1i.
